Dimmie Willis Jr. also known as DBOE is one of the hottest rappers to come out of the South. His single "I'm Ready" is so hot he won the local Home Town Show Down on the number one urban station in his market, K104FM, and it earned him rotation. It all started back growing up in a single parent household for Dimmie who was born and raised in Fort worth, Texas aka Funkytown. "My mother did the best she could raising us without my dad", says DBOE. Dimmie, like most people in this generation, had the harsh reality of dealing with an absent father who was strung out on drugs. Dimmie was given the nickname DBOE, like the infamous character in the movie Friday, for whooping someone in a fight in college his freshman year. Then people took his nickname DBOE and started calling him DBOE, so he decided to stick with that as his artist name. DBOE has always loved music.
He has been entertaining since he was 5 years old. DBOE's musical influences were Michael Jackson and Southern Rap greats such as; 8 Ball & MJG, Scareface, Lil Keke and UGK. He recalls hearing the song "Pocket Full Of Stones" and he says it inspired him to start rapping. "What they were talking about was so real to me, I just dug it. They talked about everyday life and street stuff...and that is what I saw growing up, so I could relate," says DEBO. Music played a big part of his life. He received a scholarship to play the drums for Hill College. He ended up dropping out of college to pursue a career in the music industry. He completed his first solo mixtape "Time Served" and his street buzz begin to really take off. His single "I'm Ready" caught the attention Music Director Nate Quick and Kiki J Programming Assistant at K104 and from there he ended up on the radio. With the streets and radio behind him, eventually DBOE was discovered by the President of R&R Records, Dalyce "D'Lyte" Kelley who introduced him to the CEO, Romereo Hartfield and the rest is history in the making. Now DBOE is on his way to taking over and becoming an icon in Hip Hop and well known in the music business. He lives by the quote Jezzy stated "I can sleep when I die".
DBOE is not threatened by any of his competition, he feels that he is original and people will love him for what he brings to Hip Hop. Someone who is versatile, speaks real, can rap his butt off, will remain humble, will give back, and someone who can create hit music and look good doing it. His mission is to be successful and respected. Eventually, he would like to obtain some endorsement deals and eventually venture off into acting.
